Want to be a Volunteer Driver?
Could you spare a few hours to help vulnerable, elderly people get out and about?
Oxfordshire Rural Community Council is seeking volunteer drivers in Oxfordshire to support a pilot project called Circles of Support. ORCC is working with Age UK Oxfordshire to help vulnerable, elderly people resettle in their communities following a period in hospital. This involves helping them reconnect with family, friends and social activities, which means a need for transport. Existing voluntary car schemes in Oxfordshire will be the first point of call, but when they cannot undertake a journey request then the Red Arrow Driving Team steps in.
To help get the project off the ground the council is looking to recruit volunteer drivers across the county. To volunteer you need to be calm about driving in Oxfordshire (using your own car), have flexible time to offer (you specify when you will be free or not), be happy and confident with particularly vulnerable people (training is available), and be happy to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
